Coen Brown (2022) is a 6’3″ shooting guard from Sacred Heart in Sedalia, Missouri. Brown first got on our radar this summer playing in our events with Marcus Denmon Elite. He played for their 16u team and occasionally played up with the 17u squad. He holds D1 offers from IUPUI and Tennessee Tech with a handful of mid-majors checking in on him.
Brown’s already eclipsed 1,000 point scoring mark at his small-town high school, and he’s averaging around 25ppg during his junior campaign.
There is always a little hesitation and level of skepticism when a guy can score 1,000 points in 2 seasons against what might be viewed as less competition than he would face in a big city. Brown’s play with Marcus Denmon Elite over the summer erased any doubt that his game wouldn’t translate…because it did.
Brown was playing up an age group and facing a KC Run GMC team that has several D1 prospects, some have high major offers. And Brown stepped up. He didn’t play nervous, never got sped up, and looked completely comfortable on the floor. He was getting buckets.
Brown is a big-time shooter with range and great footwork to get his shot off — off the bounce or coming off screens. He has a high IQ to read the defense and take what they are giving him. This really stuck out to us as he was consistently getting to his spots for buckets — 3-pointers, lane jumpers, or attacking the basket. His skill work and scoring-sets off the triple threat are unique and something you can tell he has spent a ton of time working on.
Keep an eye on Brown this spring and summer as he runs with Marcus Denmon Elite. He’ll have quite a few college coaches checking in on him.
